New Release - In Debt to the Dom

My latest book is released today:

IN DEBT TO THE DOM

It is part of my Guilty Pleasures series.

Here's the blurb:

At twenty-eight, Maddie James has risen through the ranks of investment bank Goldstein Rivers to achieve great success. All of that changes when she receives a demand for half a million dollars for the safe return of her sister. Torn between her allegiance to her job and the demands of the kidnappers, she secretly wires the money, hoping to replace it with the sale of her house.
When thirty-six-year-old wealthy businessman Keaton Rivers discovers the money is missing from his company, he suspects Maddie. Will he throw her to the wolves or find another way for her to repay the debt?
As a Dom, Keaton knows Maddie would make the perfect submissive. From the very first moment he laid eyes on her, he’d wanted her. Only this time it will be on his terms...
To save her career, will Maddie make a deal with the Dom?

“What are you going to do?”
“What would you do?”
She hung her head in shame. “Call the cops.”
He picked up the phone. “Good idea. Now we’re thinking in tandem.” His anger, now exasperated by her lack of an explanation, spurred him into action, and he began dialing.
“Please don’t.”
“Pardon?”
“Please don’t, Keaton. I’ll do anything.”
Her pleading made him disconnect the call. Her submissive tone brought something in him to the surface. Something he had kept locked and hidden away for years.
He stared at her. “Anything? Do you have any idea what anything means?”
“Yes.” Her hands clasped tightly together. “I have a buyer for the house. In just over a month, the sale will go through. I can pay you back then.”
“So, in the meantime, you’ll do anything to keep me from turning you in?”
“Yes.”
“Do you know what that makes you, Maddie?”
“Yes.”
He stood and walked around his desk. At six foot three, he towered over her small petite figure. She couldn’t be more than five-four. Standing in front of her, he looked down into her trembling features. With a finger under her chin, he angled her face.
“Look at me.”
Her gaze rose to his, and he saw the frightened girl in her eyes. Physical desire spun its way into his body as her pale green irises connected with his. He wanted to dominate and make her compliant to his will. He wanted to seek some sort of satisfaction for her abuse of his trust. He wanted to bury his hands in her hair and love her the way he’d wanted to since the first time he’d seen her.
“I thought you had principles?” He mocked.
“They won’t do me any good now.”
“No, they won’t.”
“I can make up for last week when I was so despicable. I can be whatever you want, whatever you desire.”
“Is that so? Careful, Maddie, because my desires might not be the same as yours.”
“Oh, I think we’re on the same level when it comes to sex.”
He shook his head, and laughed out loud. “You have no idea, do you? Vanilla sex is okay for the right occasion, but I prefer something a little more exciting.”
Digesting what he’d just said, she stared directly at him. A faint blush tinged her pale cheeks. “You wanted me once. You can still have me.” She paused briefly. “However you desire.”
“You put a high price on…” he let his eyes sweep over her before continuing, “your services. Do you really think you’re worth half a million dollars?”
He saw her wince. She was fighting for her survival, and he knew it, yet he couldn’t—wouldn’t—back down. He wanted his pound of flesh. Maddie had broken his trust.
“Until my house sale goes through, I haven’t anything else to offer.”
He stared at her. At that moment, he felt it was possible to crave and despise in equal measure. She aroused a primitive need in him. He thought of the money she’d stolen, and his heart hardened. Either way, she would pay back everything she owed him.
“Depending on how you view things, you may have just made a deal with the devil, Maddie.”

4.5 Star Review for BRANDED BY THE TEXAS RANCHER

A new review for
BRANDED BY THE TEXAS RANCHER  and it's 4.5 STARS!!

Reviewed by Cheryl at Manicreaders

Branded by the Texas Rancher is book two of the Cowboy Bad Boys by Jan Bowles. This book can be read as a standalone novel. I am really enjoying this series. If you like cowboys, strong women, and romance then you will like Branded by the Texas Rancher. Rebecca and Jed make a great couple. Jed may be rough around the edges but he has a heart of gold. Annie was so cute. She seemed so much wiser beyond her eight years. Another rip, roaring, fantastic read from Ms. Bowles.

5 HEARTS FROM THE ROMANCE STUDIO

What a wonderful Sunday read! After reading another of Jan Bowles’ books, I was anxious to read this one. It definitely did not disappoint me. This is a provocative book about an English woman transplanted into Texas society. Her writing style captivated me previously. It only grabbed my attention more completely with this book.

Rebecca Wade, 28, left England for the unknown area of Avery Grove, in Central Texas, after her rejection. Her fiancé dumped her one month before the wedding because he said she was frigid. As the daughter of a bitter preacher, she wanted a fresh start.

Ms. Jan Bowles has presented us with another work that gave me insight into her writing abilities. This main couple could not have been more opposite. However, the chemistry was sweltering. The arousing sensuality was a wonderful page-turner. I did not stop until I had completed the book.

Her secondary characters were pivotal even though not often present. The affects of their inputs into the lives was more prevalent. I admire Bowles’ ability to tell an expressive, explosive storyline with a great background of beautiful country.

I highly recommend this book for anyone, except the too-young. I’m sure that adults will fully appreciate her writing talent.

What is the fascination with cowboys?

What is the fascination with cowboys?

Since as long as I can remember a cowboy has always held the imagination of both men and women, especially in our family. My grandmother would read nothing else, and my father followed suit.

During my formative years, I grew up watching several cowboy series. The most memorable series being, The High Chaparral. It was not Billy Blue Cannon for me, but Manolito Montoya, played by Henry Darrow. He just had that sexy roagish charm that held me enthralled.

Other notable series were The Virginian, and Bonanza. My favourite cowboy series has to be Alias Smith and Jones. All my friends preferred Jedediah ‘Kid’ Curry played by Ben Murphy, but I just loved Hannibal Heyes, played by Pete Duel. Again he had a certain roagish charm that I fell in love with.

For someone who has lived in England most of their life, they conjured up the Wild West. The pioneering spirit that made America what it is today. I’m sure all the men who watched these action packed films wanted to be them, and all the women wanted to know them.

So who is my favourite cowboy of all time?

It just has to be Butch Cassidy, played by Paul Newman in the iconic film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I’m sure you will have your own favourite cowboy. Leave a comment and let me know.

All my favourite cowboys have a roagish, devil-may-care attitude. They’re fun and sexy. I try to bring these qualities to the heroes of my books.

5 HEART review for SHACKLED BY THE COWBOY DRIFTER

A 5 HEART Review for
SHACKLED BY THE COWBOY DRIFTER

The Romance Studio Review

Ashley Carmicheal was a want-to-be actress that worked in a local diner. She waited tables while awaiting her dream job. Her long-term boyfriend, Rob, dropped her after he made it big. He had been so abusive she was afraid of any new relationship. That was until a gorgeous cowboy, Zack Delaney, showed up at one of her tables. The interest seemed mutual. However, things were not as they seemed. She was concerned about his secretive actions.

Zack Cantrell couldn’t share his actions to anyone—even Ash. He didn’t want to get involved because he did not want to draw attention to her and put her in danger. However, when she found him dealing drugs, it was too late. He had to take care of her. That wasn’t likely since he had no confidence he would be able to. His secretive past scared him concerning his ability to protect her.

Ms. Jan Bowles has written a poignant book about a couple who had unhappy pasts that they both kept silent about. These main characters were emotionally charged and grabbed my attention quickly. I was amazed at the way Bowles presented the background information. It made the couple seem quite realistic. The sexual content was very explicit, but scorching! It was an overall part of the storyline—not the story.

The glimpses of the area, the land and the expectations they had and their own vulnerability toward each other was endearing. It was so easy to fall in love with the couple. The area was described so that I felt I was there. I couldn’t stop reading the book and was completely surprised at the ending.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre. I guarantee you will enjoy it.

Summary:
Thirty-two year old English Architect Sam Marshall had vowed never to return to Oxley in Oxfordshire. When he meets Megan Lawrence, a twenty-five year old ethereal beauty for the first time in ten years, old wounds are re-opened.
Their troubled past has remained unspoken all this time. Neither of them wants to broach the subject, yet they both know the deep attraction between them will not go away.
Are they really willing to lay their emotions bare in order to move on? Can they finally put the past behind them once and for all? Will Sam eventually find it in his heart to forgive Megan? And will Megan ever learn to forgive herself?

Ashley’s Review:
Dark Secrets is an intense read as it deals with Megan’s dramatic and emotional “secret”. She spends her life trying to be with the one man she’s always loved, but previous events end up keeping them apart.
While Dark Secrets is not a “candy and roses” type romance, it is a roller coaster ride of emotional ups and downs, filled with heavy sexual tension. Megan and Sam let their attraction finally take control, but past secrets try to destroy the relationship they have worked so hard to establish.
I think Dark Secrets by Jan Bowles was well written and everything unfolded at a steady pace to make a great story. The sexual tension led up to some can’t-possibly-wait-any-longer sex that’s worth the wait!
Rated 4 Ravens by Ashley!

A New Review for Shackled by the Cowboy Drifter

I just received a wonderful review by Cheryl at Manicreaders.

Rating:
Reviewer: Cheryl

Zach was walking along when he was attacked from behind. After the beating Zach received, he needs nothing more than a nice cold beer.

Ash works as a waitress. Ash immediately zoned in on Zach the moment he walked in the door. Of course, it would be hard not to notice Zach. He is really good looking. When Zach stirs something up inside Ash, Ash realizes that she has been without a man for too long. Let’s just say though that Zach didn’t make a great first impression with Ash. Once, he redeemed himself…watch out!
Shackled by the Cowboy Drifter is a Cowboy Bad Boys novel. Every book that I have read by author, Jan Bowles is a favorite of mine. Shackled by the Cowboy Drifter is no exception. This book has both romance and action.
If a sexy, cowboy like Zach walked into my place of employment, I would have a hard time resisting him. Ash was my favorite. She was feisty but sweet at the same time. Kind of like…honey mixed with red pepper flakes for kick. Mrs. Bowles really knows how to make her characters come alive within the pages of the book. I wouldn’t mind being shackled to a cowboy! I give this book four stars.

A First Review for SHACKLED BY THE COWBOY DRIFTER

I just had to share my first review for SHACKLED BY THE COWBOY DRIFTER from Happy Ever After Reviews.

Ren’s Review

Ashley Carmichael, known as Ash, is an actress who knows that her shelf life is about to expire. She is working as a waitress in the local diner when Zack Delaney comes into her life. Ash is also licking her wounds after emerging from a volatile relationship.

Zack is a tall, dark and handsome hunk of Cowboy beef in his tight jeans and knowing blue eyes but he is carrying his own painful secrets. He breezes into the diner where he meets Ash, insults her and is left with his foot in his mouth after their initial encounter.

Later that night, they meet up again in a bar where Zack makes a peace offering. Now, under different circumstances, their attraction is immediate and they share a night of passion with the understanding that it is only for that one night. When Zack walks out the next morning, Ash is convinced that she will never see him again.

A chance meeting in a darkened alley puts Ash smack in the middle of Zack’s illegal activities and he finds himself caught up in lies to protect Ash from discovering the truth about him. Ash is fascinated yet repelled by what she knows so far. She then sees another side to Zack and her compassion elicits feelings in him that he thought were gone forever. In each other’s arms, they find a tenderness that has been missing from their lives, a feeling of excitement and connection. It takes a weekend getaway for the two of them to start wondering if there is a chance that they could make it work.

I really enjoyed this story as it moved right along, allowing the reader to see the relationship develop between them. The sexual tension does not let up at all and fulfills the Happily Ever After theme. Shackled by the Cowboy Drifter should not be missed!

Chapter One

Zack tensed his muscles. Something didn’t feel right. Those footsteps had been following him down this dark street for a few minutes now, and they were getting too close. Just as he was about to turn around and confront whomever it was, he felt a rush of air. A heavy blow smashed across his temple. He crashed to the ground, the left side of his face making painful contact with the pavement.

With barely a moment to think, a crushing pain slammed into his ribs and he doubled up. He reached inside his jacket and pulled out the Smith and Wesson. In some discomfort he hissed through clenched teeth. “You can stop right there, amigo.” Luckily his breath began to fill his lungs once more. He edged to a nearby wall and braced his back against it.

He eyed the dark, swarthy man warily. Caught in the process of stealing his bag, his assailant stood frozen to the spot, like some cartoon character with one arm reaching forward.

When Zack wiped his free hand across his mouth, blood stained his fingers. Yep, this asshole had damn near caved the one side of his face in.

Waving the gun at his attacker, he spoke again, “Now, we can either do this the hard way, or the easy way. Just back off and get the fuck out of here before I change my mind.”

His swarthy nemesis appeared to contemplate the situation. Beads of sweat dripped down his face as he looked first at Zack and then the bag.

“Like I said, I don’t care if I have to blow your fucking brains out. You’re not the first, and you won’t be the last.” Zack eased himself into a standing position. Thankfully, his ribs didn’t feel broken. “What’s it to be?” He’d reached the end of the line. It would all be over if he let him get away with it.

The man smiled. “Adios, amigo.” Slowly he retreated, holding his hands in full view. Eventually, when he’d reached far enough away, he turned and disappeared quickly down a side alley.

Zack stuffed the Smith and Wesson back into the waistband of his jeans. He’d been right to bring it with him. Tijuana was full of bandits. Reaching down, he scooped up his hat, dusted it down, and picked up his bag.
He caught his reflection in the shop window. Blood oozed down his cheek, and he wiped it away with the back of his hand. He hardly recognized himself anymore. Just when had he become such a mercenary bastard? Deep down he knew the exact moment he’d changed. His life had simply been blown away. Now all that remained was a hardened, empty shell.

Even Renee wouldn’t know him now. He remembered the last words he’d spoken to her. “Don’t worry, baby, everything will be fine. Just trust me.” Unfortunately, life didn’t always work out so perfectly. As bitterness consumed him once more, he turned away in disgust at his reflection.

* * * *

Ash watched the tall cowboy enter the diner where she worked. Dressed in jeans, a white shirt, and a tan leather waistcoat, he found a seat and looked around for a waitress to take his order. He was too far away to see clearly, but she could already tell he had a great physique. The man could move mountains with those muscles. He removed his hat and placed it on the seat next to him then pulled a menu from the stand. As he was on one of her tables, she looked forward to getting a closer view.

Finally, she finished taking the order from a particularly obnoxious family. Their two children just wouldn’t sit still. They’d made faces at her from the moment they’d walked in.

After placing the order with Ron on the grill, she turned to Maisy, a waitress on another station. “I swear it, if they don’t start treating me with a little respect soon, I’ll drop the ice cream they’ve ordered straight into their laps.”

Her friend chuckled. “Now don’t let them get to you, darlin’. You need to concentrate on the dish that just settled into table five. I’d drop ice cream into his lap anytime, and I’d lick it off him for free.”

Ash giggled. “Me, too. Only I’d pay to do it.”

Maisy raised her eyebrows. “You’ve been single for far too long, girl.”

Ron leaned across the counter. “Are you girls gonna stop gossiping and do some work?”

“Don’t make out like you’re hard done by, Ron. I know you just love all the juicy gossip.”

“You bet. It brightens my day listening to you two.” He slapped four burgers on the grill, and they sizzled loudly.

Taking no notice of Ron, Maisy motioned to Ash with her hand. “Shoo. What are you waiting for? Go take his order. I’ll serve the The Munster Family for you.”

With pad and pencil ready, Ash walked up to table five. He was still studying the menu, so she let her gaze wander from the tip of his cowboy boots, past the tight fitting Wranglers, to his strong muscular chest.
This guy did some serious workouts. She could clearly see the six-pack abs under his tight-fitting clothes.
Girl, you need to get a grip and stop salivating.

Maisy was right. She’d been without a man for far too long. Nine months seemed an awful long time to be single, but then hadn’t she been burned badly by Rob? She hadn’t looked at another man since they’d split. Well, not until now.

Ash noted his black, wavy collar-length hair that fell about his temples, the strong jaw line, the way his large hands held on firmly to the menu. His skin the color of warm teak appeared rugged and weather-beaten. He looked to be in his mid-thirties. When his eyes finally locked with hers, she swallowed hard. Bright blue and striking against his well-tanned skin, they simply took her breath away.

“What can I get you, cowboy?” Her voice sounded shaky even to her own ears, and she hoped he didn’t notice.

“I’ll have ham, with eggs over easy.” She assumed from his drawl he was from the South. So he wasn’t a local. Too bad, the guy was just probably passing through.

“Say, do you have any grits?”

She shook her head, pointing with her pencil. “Only what’s on the menu.”

“Hmm, then I’ll have hash browns and coffee.”

He nodded as she repeated his order back to him. He seemed to notice her for the first time, his gaze slowly travelling from her hands to her face. She had a sudden feeling that he’d ripped the clothes right off her.

“Is that an English accent?”

“Yes,” she answered. Now that he’d turned toward her, she noticed the cuts on the one side of his face. The man looked dangerous, and just a little exciting.

“Don’t tell me. You came to seek your fame and fortune in Hollywood but ended up waiting tables instead.” With an amused expression on his face, he leaned back in his seat and waited for her to answer.

If she hadn’t been so annoyed by his glib observation, her jaw would have dropped open. He had her life story to a T in just five minutes flat. She gave him a tight smile. “Yes, we’re a sad bunch. Like the song said, ‘All the stars that never were, are pumping gas and parking cars.’ Guess you now know why I work in this sleazy diner, serving dumbass customers.”

Before he could say anything, she lifted up her notepad and continued, “I’d better place your order, cowboy.” With that, she turned and walked away.

* * * *

Zack chuckled to himself as the waitress went to take an order from another table. She sure had bristled at his personal remarks. He could tell them a mile off. The perfect white smile. A toned body to die for. With her chestnut-highlighted hair all cascading onto her shoulders and her perfect manicure, it hadn’t taken him long to work it out.

She’d certainly piqued his curiosity with her refined English accent. The little pocket rocket couldn’t be more than five-foot-three. Very attractive and petite, her large, green eyes had stared him down.

He shook his head and focused back on more pressing needs. Business had demanded that he leave Mexico in a hurry, so he hadn’t slept for two days. He’d rest this afternoon and then write up his report tomorrow. He checked his watch just as Little Miss Perfect brought his coffee to the table.

“Is it so obvious that I look like an out-of-work actress?” she asked.

He shrugged as his gaze wandered over her. Typically, she wore far too much makeup. “Aspiring actresses have this fake look about them.”

Her eyes narrowed on him, and her mouth firmed into a thin line. “Perhaps you should revise that comment, cowboy,” she stated sarcastically.

“What I mean is, they look manufactured and over-the-top.” Hell, now he’d gone and said something far worse. See where losing sleep had got him? Thank God she wasn’t out to kill him. “I’ll rephrase that—”

“Mister, perhaps you should just quit while you’re ahead.”

He nodded, his gaze coming to rest on the name badge pinned to her chest. “I think you should just forget that I said anything—Ashley.”

Without looking at him, she answered, “Don’t worry, cowboy, I already have.” Spinning quickly on her heels, she walked away. Now that didn’t happen very often. A haughty English woman had really put him in his place.

Terms of Endearment, adding romance to a story

Following a recent blog I did on naming the hero and the heroine of my books, I have thought about the terms of endearment used to enhance the love between the main protagonists.

The usual ones appeared to mind straight away. In my latest book SHACKLED BY THE COWBOY DRIFTER, the hero Zack Delaney often uses the term, baby. In other books I have written, such as LOVE LESSONS WITH THE TEXAS BILLIONAIRE, I used darlin' and honey to further enhance the heroes character. In another book DARK SECRETS, I used the term sweetheart quite often to amplify the romance between the main characters.

Where I live, the term duck is often used to convey feelings of affection. I couldn't possibly imagine writing a romantic scene with that term. Other ones I noted are baby cakes, chicken, cutiepie, dumplin', dearest, darling, honeybun, kitten, love, lover, lover boy, lamb chop, poppet, precious, pumpkin, sexy, sugar, sweet thing, sweetie, sweetie pie, the list goes on.

What strange terms have you come across? Any you'd care to share?

Please leave a comment I'd love to know your thoughts. Jan x

4.5 TEACUPS for LOVE LESSONS WITH THE TEXAS BILLIONAIRE

Love Lessons with the Texas Billionaire by Jan Bowles

Publisher: Siren-Bookstrand Publishing

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Heat Rating: 2

Blurb

English beauty Eva St. John is flown to Texas to shadow rugged billionaire oilman Jack McClaine, for the magazine article she is writing.

He has a reputation as a fast living, womanizing rogue, who has quite literally come from the wrong side of the tracks. A self-made man who always gets what he wants.

Still nurturing a broken heart and a secret past she left behind her long ago, Eva intends to remain professional at all times. But will she be able to resist the inevitable sexual advances of the predatory Texan Jack McClaine? And will she really want to?

As a rule Jack McClaine never mixes business with pleasure, but for the beautiful and intriguing Eva St. John he will make an exception. Who is she really? And what is she running from?

LynnMarie’s Review

Jan Bowles is a brilliant author that perfectly wraps emotion around all her characters. She leaves a trail of mystery along the way, to keep the reader guessing and intrigued.

Eva is pressured by her boss to write an article on the billionaire Jack McClaine. She doesn’t want the job because there is something about Jack that brings out her vulnerabilities. Her past is riddled with tragedy. Jack’s sexy, rugged and a known womanizer. Eva can’t deal with heartbreak, but knows being trapped at his home while she writes her article will be filled with temptation.

Jack is a great character. He’s strong and sexy, and can have any woman he wants, but he sees something in Eva that makes him want more in life.

Jan Bowles surprises us near the end, making our happily ever after that much sweeter. For a well written novel with fully developed characters and a classic love story, pick up your copy of Love Lessons with the Texas Billionaire.

A SURPRISE 50TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION PRESENT (Poll)

Guess what, I was 50 a few days ago. So what do you think I had to mark that special milestone in my life? It is half a century after all.

Perhaps some slippers? Or a book on how to look ten years younger? Maybe an eternity ring from my husband?

No.

I chose a belly piercing. WHAT? Little old me, who used to be the shy retiring girl?

Well, I've news for you. I just found out life's not a rehearsal. Time to grab it with both hands, before it's too late.

Am I making sense?

So why the piercing? My heroine in DARK SECRETS has one, and so does the heroine in my WIP. I guess I thought why not. Why can't I have one?

My husband who bought it for me, is over the moon. He likes it. I mean he really likes it.

So this got me to thinking. Do you think I'm too old? A sad case hankering after her youth? Or do you think I did the right thing? After all, when today's youngsters get to my age, they're hardly going to hang up their piercings.

Now for the POLL. Feel free to vote as you feel. At the bottom of the poll is a space to put your own answer.

Thanks for stopping by. Jan

THE RETURN now in PRINT

My first published book with Siren-Bookstrand, has just come of age, and has now gone into print.

Whilst on assignment in Iraq, English TV presenter and journalist Robert Tremayne is captured by the Islamic Jihad and held hostage.

His soul mate, Marielle, can barely come to terms with her loss but tries to move on with her life. Two years later Robert is discovered alive. Marielle is overjoyed, but her life has changed beyond all recognition, and the man she loved is now very different. His time in Iraq has left him cold, emotionless and detached.

There's much to tell, and each wants desperately to return to the way things once were.

With the past always there to come between them, will they be able to recapture their lost love? Will they ever be happy again?

The print book is available form Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. Check out the links HERE

5 DELIGHTFUL DIVAS for DARK SECRETS

I just had to share my wonderful review from Stacey at DARK DIVA REVIEWS, she awarded DARK SECRETS 5 DELIGHTFUL DIVAS

Here's the review

Stacey’s Review:

Megan has a troubled past that nobody knows about but herself. The dark secret she carries manifests itself in her life in destructive ways, but letting go of the painful memories are too difficult.

When Sam comes back into her life, she knows she still loves him. Will the past make a relationship impossible?

Jan Bowles created a decadent tale of love, secrets and forgiveness. The sexual tension between Megan and Sam was done to perfection and kept this reviewer anxiously awaiting the day they’d finally give in to their passion.

The story was suspenseful and intriguing, leaving the reader begging for answers and closure. The sex scenes were hot, but never felt forced or rushed. Dark Secrets by Jan Bowles was an enjoyable read that held my interest. The love story is one I will remember. I look forward to more novels by this talented author and recommend romance lovers that enjoy depth to their stories to purchase, Dark Secrets.
